The 7th June, 2022 marked Burnside Village’s 50th Birthday. A time to celebrate the beginning and to look forward to the next fifty years.
THE BEGINNING | ||
1960s | Richard and Pat Cohen purchased an old bluestone cottage in Glenside which became their first land acquisition toward creating Burnside Village. | |
1972 | Burnside Village Pty Ltd is incorporated as a company. Ian Hannaford was appointed to design a small, contemporary shopping centre where the Cohen’s planted the now iconic vines, creating a unique village atmosphere and family destination. | |
EXPANSION | ||
1988 | First major expansion of Burnside Village. An Atrium Mall, South Australia’s first travelator in a retail centre and free undercover parking are introduced. | |
1989 | Village Market opens, featuring cafes and fresh food retailers, including Pasta Deli and Haydon’s Gourmet Meats | |
1992 | The new Village Pharmacy opens, one of the first large format pharmacies in Australia, with additional retailers Liz Davenport, Innocence Lingerie, Dymocks Books and Adelaide Bank. | |
MAJOR DEVELOPMENT | ||
2011 | Major expansion of Burnside Village, solidifying the Centre as Adelaide’s premier fashion destination and one of the highest performing shopping centres in Australia. | |
THE FUTURE | ||
2022 | The Cohen Group is embarking on a major expansion of Burnside Village to cater to its customers’ needs. |
