Good news for dumpling fans! New Shanghai, home to Australia’s most authentic Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine, will arrived Saturday 19 September at Burnside Village, further strengthening the centre’s reputation as Adelaide’s premier luxury retail and lifestyle destination.

Best known for its handcrafted dumplings, live dumpling theatre where trained chefs fold each bun by hand, and dining rooms styled on the glamour of 1930s Shanghai, this proudly Australian, family owned restaurant adds to Burnside Village’s already impressive dining offering.
Burnside Village Centre General Manager, Jodie Kannane says the arrival of New Shanghai reflects the centre’s ongoing focus on elevating its retail and dining mix. “New Shanghai is an incredible addition to Burnside Village and brings a fresh sense of theatre, flavour, and energy to our dining precinct. With chefs’ hand-folding dumplings before your eyes, immersive 1930s Shanghai-inspired interiors and a menu designed for sharing, it is set to become a must-visit destination for food lovers and a standout new experience for our customers,” she says.
New Shanghai franchise partner and experienced Adelaide restaurateur David Wang says the brand has always been about bringing people together over incredible food and the team can’t wait to share that with the community.
“To bring New Shanghai to Burnside Village, in the heart of Adelaide’s east, is a genuine privilege. This is a part of the city that appreciates great food and great design, and we have created somewhere people can drop in for dumplings with the family, settle in for a long lunch, or come just for a gin at The Bund. We are proud to open our doors to the local community,” he says.
The menu features New Shanghai’s signature dishes, including xiao long bao, prawn dumplings with peanut sauce, pan-fried pork buns and Shanghai-style braised pork belly, alongside handmade dumplings, dim sum, kung pao chicken, stir-fried noodles and classic Chinese stir-fries.
New Shanghai’s chefs use quality ingredients to recreate traditional recipes passed down through generations, making it a spot suited to a quick lunch, dinner or the next group gathering.
The venue’s design draws on the Art Deco glamour of 1930s Shanghai and the city’s historic Bund waterfront: a bold red and green palette, brass and gold detailing, and the Shanghai skyline traced in tile and picked out in light throughout the room. Across around 304 seats, it brings together a main dining room, a Shanghai gin bar, a live dumpling theatre, three private dining rooms and an outdoor terrace.
